The U.S Space Program (N.A.S.A) should not be taken over by private industries. Instead, it should be funded by the government. Here are some reasons why:

  • If private industries take over, they will be relying mostly on profits and may rush their ideas to insure faster gain of money. (Jason) Wrong they will be more careful because they have little funding

Read the story of the O-rings on the Challenger - I have it in my Zaccaro book.~Ms. Baker
  • The private industries may have sponsors advertise their products, and it might not be a good product for people. For instance, Red Bull used their sponsoring of Felix Baumgartner's jump from space to advertise their product. Red Bull isn't a healthy product. But because so many people knew that Red Bull sponsored the jump, more people were interested in buying it. (Xander) Red Bull only advertised them because they wanted money to fund their space exploration.

Let's be realistic - Red Bull wanted to sell more Red Bull, and attaching it to something cool and exciting like space
    jumping was a product placement.

Product placement, or embedded marketing,[1][2][3][4] is a form of advertisement, where branded goods or services are placed in a context usually devoid of ads, such as movies, music videos, the story line of television shows, or news programs. Traditionally the product placement is not disclosed at the time that the good or service is featured.

  • If private industries take over NASA and fail to do well with space research, Russia and China could take over space. So far, Russia and China are very far into space travel. If they take over space, Americans might not have anywhere to go if Earth somehow becomes uninhabitable because of an apocalypse or pollution. (Jason) I disagree if the government doesn't fund space travel Russia and China will win even more easily. *This one could be argued either way - how could you use facts/statistics/quotes as evidence to support your position? (amanda) I agree because the US is in the lead for space exploration right now and if we privatize , the company may only be worried about advertising and making more money while Nasa falls behind because there is no space exploring being done.*What is not likely to generate profit will likely be dropped. The government and Nasa right now are working on the Constellation program , which is a mission to get people back up to the moon and other planets in the Solar System by 2020. If we privatize now, we may not be able to reach that goal(because of not enough money being earned by the company (The company? What company? Be clear with language - do you mean because this is not likely to generate sufficient profit to make it worthwhile to invest in the necessary research and development?). So although the government has a budget, they are still planning to send people up there and hopefully reach that goal. The government is doing a perfectly good job funding for Nasa right now.
